If you are soon to be visiting rural Costa Rica during the rainy season, leave your sparkling white sneakers at home and think plastic. The 16 feet of annual rainfall mix up plenty of mud, and fashion aside, quick dry, plastic shoes clean up and dry like a dream.
From Crocs or flip flops around the house, to good walking shoes in town, it is important that the shoes you travel with can wash and dry easily.

We all had Crocs and the one problem seems to be that they are horrible on smooth, wet tiles. When I first got them I thought they should be pretty slip-resistant since they were made for boating, but the day after I got them I almost slipped and died on smooth concrete. Do you find this to be true?
I agree. We almost died on all the lovely tiled surfaces in Costa Rica. I think they are great for the mud, but you have to really watch the tile. We were all thinking about getting some other sort of heavy-treaded water shoe for next time.
We never have a problem slipping around the house. Wet surfaces are something to watch out for. Any quick drying shoe is ideal. It can take a long time for things to dry!
The quick-drying is definitely a good thing. I need to find something that fulfills that and can handle wet tile & wet, smooth cement. I've never had a shoe like Crocs that sucked so bad on smooth, wet surfaces. I have NO idea what kind of a plasticky show that's easy to slip-on fits that bill.
Agreed on the slippery. They're extra airy when a dog chews a few holes in them.
Slippery indeed but Costa Rica's winter is still a great deal warmer than Wyoming's! Hope your having fun at the beach! Enjoy your holiday.
Sorry about the previous post. It is raining a bit here in Quepos but it is SOOO beautiful. We are staying at Hotel Costa Linda and haven't seen any monkeys so far.
It was great getting to know your family.
Take care!
