Yoga!

Today, for the first time in my life, I did Yoga. I have never been one for a workout with a group. I would rather hit a muddy trail with my dog than try to coordinate my movements with other people. However, after two kids, loads of stress and a ten year stretching hiatus, I thought that the new class offered in the area might just do me good.

I anticipated my body not cooperating. I have seen photos and illustrations of Yoga poses. They all seem to require a great deal of balance and coordination. To my delight, Janet, the instructor, has started off slow and amazingly, there seems hope for me. To my surprise, however, it was not so much my body that had a hard time, but my mind.

I saw right away that the benefit of this ancient art is not only in getting one's body to ease into postures, but also the brain. I was astounded by how far I am from getting into a space where I am not preoccupied over sounding like Darth Vador gargling. I hope to one day master the techniques that can actually allow my mind to be free.

I am happy to have started this class, even though I feel a little like this toucan, with his undeniably large beak. I think that if I try, I can forget about the oddity I am and get to the place this beautiful bird really is. It is a place I can only imagine, for now. This class and others led by Janet in English and Spanish have space open to anyone seeking to better body and mind. She can be reached at 2419 0650.
